Performance Now聽displays a selection of works by 24 artists from a vast repository of new performance from around the world made since 2000, a period that has witnessed an exponential increase in the number of artists using live performance as one medium among many for expressing their ideas. Bringing together some of the most significant international practitioners today, Performance Now聽includes photography, objects and ephemera, installation, sound and video.
Curated by RoseLee Goldberg,聽the exhibition is designed to introduce some of the most exciting projects from the most recent decade and to generate discussion about the history of performance art.
Artists in the exhibition include:聽Marina Abramovi膰, Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, Yael Bartana, J茅r么me Bel, Guy Ben-Ner, Spartacus Chetwynd, Nikhil Chopra, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Claire Fontaine, Regina Jos茅 Galindo, Christian Jankowski, Jesper Just, William Kentridge, Ragnar Kjartansson, Liz Magic Laser, Kalup Linzy, Nandipha Mntambo, Kelly Nipper, Clifford Owens, Santiago Sierra, Laurie Simmons, and Ryan Trecartin.
Performance Now is聽a traveling exhibition co-organized by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York, and Performa, New York. The curator for the exhibition is RoseLee Goldberg, founding director and curator of Performa. The exhibition and tour are made possible, in part, by grants from the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts; the ICI Board of Trustees; and donors to ICI鈥檚 Access Fund. In Kansas City, the exhibition is made possible with support from the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts, the H&R Block Foundation, and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
