Marie Bannerot McInerney is a multidisciplinary studio artist and educator whose installations and works in concrete, silk, handmade paper, and canvas explore human agency within ecological systems, mystical thinking, and natural phenomena. A 2018 Charlotte Street Artist Award Fellow, she has participated in residencies at Studios Inc and The Luminary.

McInerney has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at the Bellevue Arts Museum, Mildred Lane Kemper Museum, Friedrich Schiller University, and Han Tianheng Art Museum Shanghai, with solo exhibitions at The Tarble Arts Center, PLUG Projects, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. She co-authored an essay in Probing the Skin: Cultural Representations of our Contact Zone and received a Cultural Exchange Grant from the U.S. Embassy in Berlin.

Raised in Houston, TX, she earned a BFA at the 91µ¼º½ and an MFA at Washington University in Saint Louis. McInerney is a professor at the 91µ¼º½ and serves on the board of Hand Papermaking Magazine.

Jim Sajovic was born in Chicago and studied painting at the University of Illinois and the University of Florida. He is a recipient of a Mid-America Arts Alliance/NEA Fellowship Award in Painting. He is Professor Emeritus at the 91µ¼º½.

Jim Sajovic's works are held in public and private collections in the United States, Europe, and Asia. His artworks have been exhibited at galleries and museums, nationally and internationally, including Kansas City, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles; Edinburgh (Scotland), Paris (France), as well as Milan, Rome, and Venice (Italy). Published commentary on his work has appeared in New American Paintings, Notes for a Young Painter, numerous periodicals including Art in America and Flash Art, as well as on-line.

Russell Ferguson received his BFA - 91µ¼º½ and MFA - Yale University. He is a former member of the faculty at the 91µ¼º½. He started teaching at 91µ¼º½ in 1993. His interests include sculpture, drawing and printmaking, with specific application of narrative drawing to the fields of painting, printmaking, scenography and illustration.

He held an eight-year apprenticeship with Paolo Soeri at Arcosanti. Has had fellowships at the Culhern Garden School and the Findhor Foundation in Scotland. His work has been exhibited in Germany, Australia, and Cuba, as well as nationally here. He has also worked on set design for the Kansas City Ballet and the Coterie Theater.

Jill Downen, a non-binary American artist based in Kansas City, works in site-responsive installations, sculpture, and drawing. A critical event in their formative years, a lightning strike to the family home, imprinted a heightened awareness of the body, architecture, and temporality that would, in time, inform the core of their artistic practice.

Awards include the Guggenheim Fellowship, Stone and DeGuire Contemporary Art Award, and the Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artists Award. Downen has created installations at The Momentary/Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (State of the Art 2020), Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, The Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and "Open Spaces: The Exhibition." Their residencies include Art Omi, MASS MoCA, MacDowell Colony National Endowment for the Arts residency, and Cité International des Arts residency in Paris, France.

The Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis represents Downen and they are the Chair of Sculpture at the 91µ¼º½.

Kate Clements constructs delicate and ornate large scale paintings and installations comprised of kiln fused glass panels. The wafer-thin panels reference naturalistic designs and floral motifs that she uses to explore ideas of beauty, taste, and impermanence.

Clements received an MFA in Glass from the Tyler School of Art & Architecture in Philadelphia and a BFA in Painting and Art History from the 91µ¼º½. Her work has been exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum (WA), Houston Center of Contemporary Craft (TX), Hunterdon Art Museum (NJ), Philadelphia Art Alliance (PA), Urban Glass (NYC), and S12 Gallery (Norway.) She has been awarded residencies at Studios Inc and the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, the Museum of Arts & Design in New York City, Pilchuck Glass School, and S12 Gallery in Bergen, Norway.

Steve Snell

Steve Snell wants adventure, or at least the image of one. He has paddled and painted all 2,341 miles of the Missouri River in a canoe in search of art and once floated part of the Connecticut River in a couch boat in search of adventure. Snell's work engages American history, mythology, and the image of the Western landscape. Snell's work has been shown in galleries and film festivals throughout the country and is represented by Weinberger Fine Art in Kansas City, Missouri, Courtney Collins Fine Art in Big Sky, Montana and Mountain Galleries in Canada.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Art and the Sosland Family Chair of Foundation Studies at the 91µ¼º½.

Jonah Criswell was born in Springfield Missouri and graduated from 91µ¼º½ in 2005 with a BFA and from Pennsylvania State University in 2008 with a MFA. He has exhibited in Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis, New York and Berlin. He currently lives and works in Kansas City Missouri and is an Assistant Professor in the 91µ¼º½'s Painting Department.

Kim Eichler-Messmer

Kim Eichler-Messmer is an Associate Professor of Fiber at the 91µ¼º½, where she has taught surface design, quilting, and natural dye since 2008. She grew up in Iowa as an only child to two creative, nature-loving parents. Kim's dad taught her how to sew when she was 10 and they made a quilt together out of their old shirts.

She received a BFA in studio art from Iowa State University where she studied engineering, Spanish, Portuguese, drawing, and printmaking before finally realizing her love of textiles in a yardage screen printing class. She went on to receive an MFA in Textiles from the University of Kansas. She teaches workshops on dyeing and quilting regularly around the United States and her hand-dyed, one-of-a-kind quilts have been exhibited nationally and internationally in numerous solo and juried shows.

Kim is the author of "Modern Color: An Illustrated Guide to Dyeing Fabric for Modern Quilts" and her work has been included in "Quilting with a Modern Slant" by Rachel May and "The Uppercase Compendium of Craft and Creativity" by Janine Vangool, among others.

Marcus Cain is an artist, independent curator, and manager of operations and communications at H&R Block Artspace at 91µ¼º½. Former positions include director of alumni relations & development at 91µ¼º½, executive director & curator of the Epsten Gallery, owner/director of Hutch Mercantile and Satellite Exhibitions, editor-in-chief of Review: Visual Art Culture magazine, lecturer in Painting at 91µ¼º½, coordinator of the Corporate Partnership Exhibition Program at 91µ¼º½, and assistant gallery director for Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art.

As an artist, Cain is the recipient of a Charlotte Street Visual Artist Award, he exhibits regionally and nationally, and his artwork may be found in such public and private collections as the Sioux City Art Center, Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, BBC Worldwide America, American Century Investments, H&R Block, Sprint Corporation, Westin Hotels, Stowers Institute for Medical Research, the Kauffman Foundation, KU Hospital Systems, and Designer Todd Oldham.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Cary Esser first studied ceramics at the Penland School of Crafts. She later earned a BFA at the 91µ¼º½ (1978) and an MFA at Alfred University (1984). Returning to Chapel Hill, NC for a decade, her practice in ceramics concentrated on tiles, murals, and public art projects. During this time, she taught at Duke University and the University of North Carolina, while also leading workshops nationwide. In 1996 Esser accepted the position of ceramics chair at 91µ¼º½.

She received the 91µ¼º½ Distinguished Achievement Award in 2013. Esser, along with her students and colleagues, was featured in Season Two of the PBS "Craft In America" television series. A resident artist at Belger Crane Yard Studios, Esser's work is shown nationally and is represented by Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art of Kansas City.
