Bio
Kim Eichler-Messmer has taught surface design, quilting, and natural dye since 2008. Kim received an MFA in聽Textiles from the University of Kansas and a BFA in Studio Art from Iowa State University. She聽creates quilts that聽explore structure and pattern in the natural world through the use聽of hand dyed and screen-printed textiles and complex, often improvisational,聽piecing. Her quilts are constructed of natural materials and she uses dyes and聽pigments made from plants and insects, many of which she grows or forages herself.聽
Her聽work has been聽exhibited nationally and internationally in numerous solo and聽juried shows. Kim has collaborated with West Elm and Pottery Barn and has designed two聽commercial fabric lines inspired by her own hand dyed textiles. She is the author of 鈥淢odern聽Color: An Illustrated Guide to Dyeing Fabric for Modern Quilts鈥 and has been featured in聽鈥淨uilting with a Modern Slant鈥 by Rachel May and 鈥淭he Uppercase Compendium of Craft and聽Creativity鈥 by Janine Vangool, among others.
